POSITION SPECIFICS

The Pennsylvania State University seeks an Investigator (Student Conduct Officer) within the Office of Sexual Misconduct Reporting and Response (OSMRR) to assist the OSMRR Director and the Title IX Coordinator in creating a safe educational environment by addressing sexual and gender‑based harassment and misconduct. The Investigator will provide prompt and effective action on complaints and monitor case processing for compliance with applicable laws.

This role offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on‑campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respond to and investigate reports of alleged sexual and/or gender‑based harassment and misconduct in a prompt and thorough manner.
  • Prepare investigative reports and communicate findings to parties and relevant University stakeholders.
  • Assist in coordinating the provision of resources and support services for individuals involved in reports of sexual or gender‑ harassment and misconduct.
  • Maintain a database related to reports of sexual and/or gender‑based harassment and misconduct, develop reports, assess trends, and identify areas of concern in the campus environment.
  • Assist the OSMRR Director and Title IX Coordinator in reviewing and revising policies and procedures related to incidents of sexual and gender‑based harassment or misconduct to ensure compliance with the law and alignment with best practices.
  • Interview relevant parties, gather relevant information, and prepare investigative packets to be used in case management.
  • Communicate frequently with University and State College Police, and other relevant police agencies, as well as other relevant units across the University (including the Office of Student Accountability, Conflict Response, Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, Ethics and Compliance, Human Resources, Risk Management, the Office of General Counsel, Residence Life, and Fraternity and Sorority Life).
  • Participate in University Conduct Board hearings, providing testimony related to the investigation of the incident.
  • May participate in threat assessment and risk reduction in crisis‑level cases.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High degree of personal/professional ethics and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed investigative techniques.
  • Ability to establish rapport and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and regulations related to Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree, 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

None.

BACKGROUND CHECKS / CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $56,200.00 – $81,500.00.
