Academic Course Coordinator – Senior Support
The Smeal College of Business, Marketing Department seeks an Academic Course Coordinator – Senior Support to provide advanced instructional and operational support for the large-format MKTG 301 courses, which serve approximately 2,000 students each academic year.
Primary Responsibilities- Course Operations & Instructional Support
- Coordinate with faculty on planning, scheduling, and execution of courses
- Manage course materials, assignments, announcements, and resources within Canvas and related systems
- Ensure course delivery platforms are accurate, organized, and user‑friendly
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance clarity and efficiency for students and instructional staff
- Teaching Assistant (TA) Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise teaching assistants
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive TA team environment
- Develop and manage systems to track TA assignments, grading workflows, and performance
- Facilitate regular communication and training to promote consistency and instructional best practices
- Student Support & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for student inquiries and course‑related concerns
- Develop structured approaches for tracking and responding to common student issues
- Meet with students as needed to provide academic support, guidance, and grade review assistance
- Resolve routine concerns independently and escalates complex or sensitive issues appropriately, applying institutional policies and sound judgment
- Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain course data including rosters, participation metrics, and grades
- Track and analyze trends in student inquiries and recurring issues across semesters
- Perform summary statistical analysis of grades, surveys, and course evaluations
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to faculty to improve course delivery
- Collaboration & Partnership
- Work closely with faculty, department staff, and college/university partners throughout the academic year
- Coordinate with units such as Undergraduate Studies and other academic support services
- Ensure effective, consistent communication across faculty, TAs, and students
- Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of departmental programming and new initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of course, department, and college operations

- Uphold academic integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality while modeling fairness, accountability, and ethical decision‑making
- Work with minimal supervision, exercising strong independent judgment to organize, prioritize, and manage day‑to‑day course operations
- Demonstrate sound judgment in assessing people and situations, making decisions that are fair, principled, and perceptive
- Communicate clearly and effectively across audiences, ensuring accurate, consistent, and thoughtful exchanges
- Maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and process refinement
- Associate degree or higher plus four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex academic or administrative processes
- Experience working in higher education or academic program coordination
- Experience performing summary statistical analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (especially Excel), Canvas, LionPATH, Workday, 25
Live - Familiarity with library databases such as Mintel and eMarketer
- Experience developing workflows, tracking systems, or process improvements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- 10‑month appointment (fall and spring semesters); 83.3% full‑time equivalency (FTE)
- Standard office hours with flexible scheduling; some evening commitments during peak periods (before and after exam days)
- Hybrid work arrangement may be available, with required on‑campus presence during peak periods
