JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Office of Science Outreach in the Eberly College of Science is seeking a Lead Curriculum Mentor to support the Science‑U summer science camp program at the University Park campus. Successful candidates will instruct and supervise K‑12 youth during the camp season, guiding staff, campers, and volunteers through hands‑on science activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to program staff, campers, and volunteers during camp sessions and serve as liaison with the Office of Science Outreach team.
- Lead classroom behavior management, ensure adherence to camp schedules, and coordinate with up to six curriculum mentors and 24 campers per classroom.
- Follow established behavior and special‑needs protocols, offer feedback to improve effectiveness of those protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants must: demonstrate success and enthusiasm working with K‑12 students in a formal classroom or camp setting; possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills; exhibit strong attention to detail, multi‑tasking ability, and a proactive, self‑starter attitude. First Aid/CPR certification and experience in behavior management are preferred.
COMPENSATIONTypical work week: 40 hours per week. Hourly wage starts at $18.70 per hour.
BACKGROUND CHECKS / CLEARANCESThis position requires PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check, plus any applicable background checks.
