We are seeking BBH students who are dedicated and student-focused to provide academic support and foster student engagement through evening drop-in sessions and scheduled appointments. The Learning Partner role is ideal for individuals passionate about providing academic support to their peers and community building within the BBH department.
Key Responsibilities:Drop-In Support (3 hours/week):
- Host a minimum of one evening drop-in session per week with drop-in sessions being offered Sunday through Thursday in the BBH Student Center (BBH 232)
- Shifts are 3 hours each, scheduled between 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM or 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM based on availability
- Provide academic assistance, answer student questions, and offer guidance on assignments and course material for BBH courses, including: BBH 301W, BBH 310, BBH 411W, and/or BBH 440. Experience in two or more of these classes is preferred.
- Offer up to 3 additional hours weekly for one-on-one Zoom appointments
- These hours are only offered and compensated if a session is booked
- Review and provide feedback on assignments submitted to the shared inbox
- Other academic duties:
- Creating academic resources
- Running exam review sessions
- Contribute to community building initiatives including:
- Plan and execute community-building initiatives
- Plan and execute events
- Conduct focus group research
- Support the peer mentoring program
- Communicate to BBH students through social media and other apps
- Strong academic standing with a B or higher achieved in 2 or more of the courses supported by the BBH Student Center: BBH 301W, BBH 310, BBH 411W, BBH 440
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Interest in creating community and providing resources for peers in the BBH program
- Comfortable using Zoom and online scheduling tools (e.g., Starfish)
- Prior experience in peer tutoring, mentoring, or academic support is strongly preferred
- Experience or willingness to learn how to provide technical support for programs and applications commonly used in BBH courses such as SPSS
- Experience or willingness to learn how to use communication and design tools such as Group Me and Canva
- Experience or willingness to further develop tutoring skills by attending Study Smarter workshops and other development opportunities offered by the university or department
- Each Learning Partner will be assigned a minimum of one evening shift per week
- $13.50/hour for a minimum of 3 hours/week and a maximum of 10 hours/week
