The Sustainable Product Design and Architecture Department at Keene State College is seeking qualified applicants for an adjunct faculty position to teach SPDI-410 Mechatronics and Automation. The course develops students' ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, control, sensor, actuator, and automation systems into functional product and manufacturing applications, with attention to hands-on prototyping, system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and safe operation of automated systems.
Successful applicants will have significant academic and/or industry experience in mechatronics, automation, robotics, controls, electromechanical systems, advanced manufacturing, or a closely related area. This is a part-time, non-benefitted position and is not considered essential staff for curtailment purposes.
Duties/Responsibilities
Course Instruction and Learning Experience
- Design and deliver SPDI-410 course content consistent with program outcomes and approved course goals.
- Lead class sessions, demonstrations, guided activities, labs, and applied mechatronics and automation projects.
- Connect course content to product design, manufacturing readiness, automation, controls, systems integration, and professional practice.
- Prepare the syllabus, lesson plans, assignments, examples, lab activities, and Canvas course materials.
- Assess student learning, provide timely feedback, assign grades, and maintain appropriate course records.
- Provide supplemental instruction, office-hour support, referrals to student support services, and mentorship related to applied technical work.
- Abide by USNH and KSC policies, including academic integrity, accessibility, safety, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with the department chair/program faculty as needed and participate in appropriate department/unit communications or meetings.
Minimum Acceptable
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, robotics, automation, or a closely related field.
- Academic and/or industry experience in mechatronics, controls, robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or advanced manufacturing relevant to the course.
- Ability to teach applied undergraduate coursework using hands-on demonstrations, projects, and assessments.
- Knowledge of mechatronic system design, sensors, actuators, control logic, electromechanical integration, and automation concepts.
- Ability to support safe, hands-on learning with equipment, prototypes, controls hardware/software, and troubleshooting activities.
- Ability to connect automation systems to product design, manufacturing readiness, and applied problem solving.
- Ability to develop clear assignments, assessments, and feedback for undergraduate learners.
- Strong communication, organization, student mentorship, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to use Canvas or other learning-management tools and common instructional technologies.
- Master's degree or higher in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, automation, manufacturing engineering, or a closely related field.
- Undergraduate teaching experience, especially in applied mechatronics, robotics, automation, manufacturing, controls, or engineering design courses.
- Professional experience with microcontrollers, PLCs, robotics, sensors, actuators, industrial automation, controls software, or electromechanical system integration.
- Experience supporting safety practices for lab, shop, robotics, or automation equipment.
- Experience teaching in project-based, studio-based, or lab-based learning environments.
- Experience using Canvas LMS.
