Just ask Engineering News‑Record, who named us to its ranking of "Top 500 Design Firms in the Nation" for our continued rapid growth and success. Our achievements can be contributed to multiple facets, but above all we are successful because of our motivated employees who strive to make every day count.

For this exact reason, we strongly believe in fostering teamwork, rewarding ambition, and providing opportunities for professional advancement.

Your Role

As a Summer College Intern in our State College office, you will directly play an integral role in the success of our organization and the early formation of your professional career. You will work under minimal supervision or in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of projects.

We have two levels for interns. Level 1 interns are Freshman and Sophomores. Level 2 interns are Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students.

Level 1 interns will primarily be assigned lab tasks for our construction materials testing projects. Key responsibilities include assisting our lab manager, learning and executing lab testing of soils (sieve analysis, Atterberg limits) and compressive strength testing of concrete cylinder samples. Some Level 1 interns may also be assigned field tasks such as field observation, sampling and testing of construction materials and clear documentation of results.

Materials you may work with in the field include soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement.

Level 2 interns will perform a mix of Level 1 tasks along with office assignments, working alongside other professionals. They may assist in report creation, soil classification, and other technical roles as directed by a professional.

Requirements

Commitment to work up to 10 weeks during the summer months. The weeks do not have to be contiguous.

Reliable vehicle for construction sites, valid driver's license, and satisfactory driving record.

  • Must complete pre‑employment requirements
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 60–80 pounds (soil and concrete samples, nuclear gauges, etc.)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical procedures and use measurement tools.
  • Civil Engineer (Geotechnical) students highly desirable but other Geology or Engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply.
