The Technician I is experienced in a fast-paced technical environment and possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The Technician I will report directly to the Assembly Plant Production Manager (initially the Director of Research & Development).The ideal candidate thrives in working hands-on on a wide range of high impact projects in medical device sterilization and industrial decontamination while utilizing microbiological, physical, and chemical testing.
Integrating quality programs and standard methods is an integral component of the responsibilities.
The Technician I inspects, assembles, and packages sterilization products and components inside a regulated environment utilizing hand tools, power tools, and automated equipment. Key duties include working in clean rooms, following strict regulatory guidelines, and ensuring absolute quality compliance and documentation.
This position is initially based at the R&D facilities of Phiex Technologies located at 200 Innovation Park, Suite 226, State College, PA 16803 and will move to the new Assembly Plant location in State College by the first quarter of 2027.
The position may require periodic travel.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assemble parts and products using hand tools, power tools, and automated machinery
- Demonstrate commitment to quality standards (including ISO 13485 standards).Good documentation practices are key to compliance with the standards along with ongoing training activities.
- Organize and order chemical feedstock inventory for manufacturing and laboratory needs.
- Assist with the development and documentation of new technologies to help ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Assist with applied research projects as needed.
- Assist in developing, and executing test protocols, experiments, & process chemistry characterization on new and revised products and processes.
- Performing quality checks and functional tests to identify defects or inconsistencies
- Recording production data, part counts and test results in manufacturing logs or software
- Maintain security standards and comply with pertinent safety regulations and protocols
- Perform or review quality, design, and health checks on instruments
- Follow strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Document production steps accurately in Device History Records (DHR) to maintain compliance.
- Work inside a controlled cleanroom environment while adhering to strict gowning procedures.
- Identify and report any component defects or contamination issues immediately.
- Read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and standard work instructions.
- Perform quality checks and test finished goods for defects.
- Record production counts, data logs, and basic testing results.
- Maintain a clean work area and follow all plant safety guidelines, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Troubleshooting assembly issues and reporting malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors
- Maintaining and calibrating assembly tools and equipment
- Following company and industry safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment (PPE) use
- Packaging, labeling and preparing finished goods for shipment
- Supporting continuous improvement efforts by identifying process or product enhancements
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Assemble parts and products using hand tools, power tools, and automated machinery
- Assist with technical implementation of Phiex technologies as requested by Production Manager
- Other duties as assigned

Education/Certification:
Technical degree or B.S.
Experience
Required:
1 to 3 years
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and excellent finger dexterity for handling tiny parts.
- Basic computer skills for tracking parts and logging quality data.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and work under bright task lighting.
- Strong reading comprehension to accurately follow complex, multi-step instructions.
