The Membership Specialist supports WPSU’s membership and annual giving program by helping attract, retain, and engage individual donors. This position assists with membership campaigns, donor communications, gift processing, database management, member services, and stewardship activities designed to strengthen relationships with WPSU supporters and increase philanthropic support.
Working collaboratively with WPSU development, communications, programming, and other staff, as well as colleagues across WPSU and WHYY, the Membership Specialist helps provide a positive donor experience while supporting the station’s fundraising and community engagement goals.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of membership and annual giving campaigns across direct mail, email, digital, on-air, and other fundraising channels.
- Provide responsive and professional customer service to WPSU members and donors, including answering questions and resolving membership, donation, and benefit-related issues.
- Process and acknowledge membership gifts and maintain accurate donor and contribution information in the donor database.
- Assist with donor renewals, upgrades, recurring giving, lapsed-member outreach, and other strategies designed to improve member retention and revenue.
- Steward individual donors who contribute $1,000 plus annually.
- Coordinate membership acknowledgments, tax receipts, premiums, benefits, and other donor fulfillment activities.
- Assist with the development, proofreading, and distribution of fundraising appeals, renewal notices, acknowledgments, newsletters, and other member communications.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor records and ensure appropriate documentation of member interactions and activities.
- Generate reports, mailing lists, and other membership data to support fundraising campaigns, analysis, and departmental planning.
- Assist with tracking membership performance, campaign results, retention, acquisition, and other key metrics.
- Support on-air fundraising drives, member events, community events, and other donor engagement activities.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors as needed to support membership campaigns, mailings, premiums, and donor services.
- Help identify opportunities to improve membership processes and enhance the overall donor experience.
- Maintain confidentiality of donor information and follow organizational policies and accepted fundraising practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- One to three years of experience in fundraising, membership, donor relations, customer service, marketing, communications, or a related area preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to learn fundraising and donor database systems.
