Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Behavioral Health

Job Summary

In collaboration with the physician, provides care to new or established patients. Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up care. Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of the nurse practitioner practice. Works with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff for triage, telephone communication and patient education.

• Assess and establish a presumptive diagnosis and implement treatment plans for patients.
• Make accurate and complete entries in the electronic medical record; order and interpret diagnostic testing; consult and prescribe appropriate medical therapy using evidence‑based practice.
• Prescribe, adjust or discontinue medications or therapies as appropriate.
• Evaluate and report to collaborative physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present significant risk to patient health or well‑being.
• Perform procedures within the scope of the nurse practitioner license.
• Communicate with collaborative physician, patient, PCP, and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
• Act as patient advocate, providing safe, ethical care and health education in an accessible language.
• Interpret and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.

• Master’s Degree in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) – required.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania ( of Pennsylvania).
• Certified Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• Experience in outpatient mental health nursing practice for adults; child and adolescent experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with collaborative physicians.
