Position Specifics

A Postdoctoral Scholar appointment is available in the Lopez-Uribe lab at The Pennsylvania State University to work on an NSF-funded project investigating sensory biology evolution in pollinators. The position will involve genome assembly and annotation and detection of signatures in olfactory gene receptors. The postdoc will complete the work and disseminate results via peer-reviewed publications within the term timeframe. Additionally, there will be opportunities to engage in outreach work transferring research outputs to the general public.

The candidate must demonstrate strong bioinformatics skills, a strong publication record, and evidence of effectively working in teams and mentoring students. This is a term position; the length of the term will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities
  • Lead genome assembly and annotation for the project.
  • Detect signatures in olfactory gene receptors.
  • Produce peer-reviewed publications within the term timeframe.
  • Assist in grant writing.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Engage in outreach activities.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biology, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, or related fields, completed by the appointment date.
  • Strong bioinformatics skills and experience analyzing genomic data.
  • Evidence of bioinformatics research and a strong publication record.
  • Experience in teamwork and mentoring students.
  • Legal ability to work in the U.S.
