Position Overview

This is a term position; the length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Electrochemical Engine Center (ECEC) in the field of large‑scale computations for polymer electrolyte fuel cells under the direction of Dr. Chao‑Yang Wang.

• Conduct large‑scale CFD simulations and develop advanced algorithms for polymer electrolyte fuel cell research.
• Collaborate across electrochemistry, materials, diagnostics, CFD modeling, and system engineering within the multidisciplinary ECEC program.
• Contribute to advanced battery and fuel cell research for vehicle electrification, renewable energy storage, and power grids.
• Utilize the center’s extensive computational and experimental facilities.

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields by the start date.
• Strong prior experience in large‑scale CFD calculations.
• Strong skills in CFD for complex geometries and parallel computing.
• Development of advanced algorithms for problems involving very large meshes (tens to hundreds of millions).
• Experience with AI‑enabled and GPU‑based calculations is welcome.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work independently to solve critical problems.
