SummaryThe Sales Manager is responsible for generating business that maximizes revenue, occupancy, and profitability for The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center and the Nittany Lion Inn. The pre-defined group market segments are University, Corporate, Association, Government, and SMERFS (Social, Military, Educational, Religious, Fraternal, Sports). The Sales Manager will be assigned specific market segment(s) in which to work and identify and contract group rooms and food and beverage business.
This position has dual responsibility for supporting the sales efforts of both properties by developing new business opportunities, cultivating and maintaining strong client relationships, and managing assigned accounts. Working closely with hotel leadership and operational departments, the Sales Manager delivers exceptional client experiences while achieving established revenue goals through proactive sales activities, strategic account management, and market development.
- Maintains guest service as the driving philosophy of the operation.
- Demonstrates a commitment to delivering exceptional service throughout the sales process and client relationship.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with clients through responsive communication and professional service.
- Works collaboratively with operational departments to ensure successful execution of group programs and events.
- Supports and promotes Scholar Hotels' service culture and brand standards.
- Generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, outside sales activities, and relationship development to achieve established weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned accounts while identifying opportunities to expand business, increase market share, and maximize long-term revenue across both properties.
- Promote and represent both properties, recommending the property that best meets each client's needs while maximizing overall portfolio revenue, occupancy, and profitability.
- Manage assigned accounts throughout the entire sales cycle, including prospecting, client meetings, property tours, proposals, contract negotiations, and post-event follow-up to ensure exceptional client experiences.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, providing responsive communication, resolving concerns, and building long-term business relationships.
- Collaborate with Conference Services and hotel operations to ensure seamless execution of group programs and events that meet or exceed client expectations.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Sales Managers to achieve shared sales goals, exchange leads and market intelligence, assist with account coverage, and support business opportunities across both hotels.
- Foster a culture of teamwork by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues during vacations and peak business periods, and contributing to the overall success of the sales team.
- Partner with Conference Services, Food & Beverage, and Guest Services to maximize hotel performance and deliver exceptional guest experiences.
- Maintain accurate account information, sales activities, forecasts, pipeline reports, contracts, and client communications within the company's approved CRM and sales management systems.
- Prepare sales reports, activity summaries, revenue forecasts, and other documentation for the Director of Sales.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer demand to identify opportunities and recommend strategies that strengthen the competitive position of both properties.
- Assist with contract administration as needed while ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Represent Scholar Hotels at trade shows, networking events, industry associations, community organizations, and other business development activities.
- Maintain regular attendance, comply with company policies, brand standards, and safety regulations, and always maintain a professional appearance.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Strong sales, relationship management, customer service, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships, contribute to a high-performing sales team, and foster a culture of shared accountability and mutual success.
