Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYProvides skilled general carpentry, cabinet-making, painting, and wall covering services.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation:High School diploma or equivalent required.Graduate from a vocational-technical/trade training preferred.Experience:A minimum of two (2) years of carpentry work experience required.Experience in hospital setting preferred.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Strong knowledge of construction, framing/finishing or general carpentry required.Obtains the ability to use woodworking power tools such as a planner, saws, and drills. Carpenter's hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, files, squares and calipers, blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, ladders, scaffolds, and saw horses.Numerical ability is needed to perform arithmetic operations in calculating quantities of materials and in measuring and cutting building materials.Spatial ability is needed to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints and specificationsMotor coordination is needed to coordinate eyes and fingers when using hand and power tools.Finger dexterity is needed to finger small tools and supplies such as nails, screws and measuring instrumentsManual dexterity is needed for skillful and accurate hand and arm movements when using hand and power tools.Ability to perform duties that vary frequently according to assignment, evaluates information against measurable criteria, work within set standards and limits when following blueprints or shop drawingsAbility to identify and resolve issues during projects and repairs.Prioritizing safety and adhering to safety regulationsEnsuring accuracy and precision in all work.Excellent attention to detailKnowledge of color theoryProficiency with various painting tools and techniquesGood communication skillsPhysical stamina to work at heightsUnderstanding of surface preparationsThe ability to manage time effectively while maintaining a keen aesthetic senseCrucial aspects include dexterity, proper color matching, and the capability to interpret hospital needs and project plansLicense/Certification/Registration:Driver license required.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDPerforms duties with minimal supervision from Facility Supervisor.

ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCalculates quantity of materials needed, selects stock, tools and supplies for the repair of hospital buildingsRepairs partitions, doors, windows, floors, furniture and building framework consisting of wood or metal, using power tools such as a planer, sander, saws and drills or hand tools such as planes, chisels, hammers, rasps, saws and related equipment.Reads blueprints and specificationsMeasures and marks in prescribed dimensions using rulers, tape measures, calipers, compass' and marking pencils to guide cutting operations.Installs sheetrock, linoleum, vinyl and asphalt tile.Cuts and installs Formica as require.May perform related tasks such as replacing windows, ceiling tile, concrete forms, mixing and placing concrete and patching stucco wall surfacesCollaborate with other maintenance personnel, carpenters, contractors, and construction personnel for the successful completion of projects and repairs.Responsible for setting up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.Properly prepare and paint or apply protective and decorative coatings and wall coverings to surface of assigned areas in a safe manner. Frequently review departmental policies and procedures and maintains a working knowledge of the sameStain, varnish, and otherwise finish or refinish furniture, shelves, cabinets and related fixtures, either new or existing.Perform all work following infection control procedures.Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms, and shop area.Properly protect or move all equipment and furniture that may be damaged or marred from paint or stain in the area to be painted.Measures and prepares working drawings and estimates amounts of materials when necessary.Order material necessary for any job.Prepare surface for painting by applying spackling compound, scraping, and sanding as required.Secure and set up or prepare needed equipment such as ladders, scaffolding, paint brushes, rollers and pans, paint spray.Occasionally paint outside areas which are within easy reach of small ladders and/or scaffolding equipment.Mix and apply paint at the rate of 2,000 square feet per eight-hour day on smooth or pre-finished walls, 1,200 square feet per eight-hour day on rough walls, including but not restricted to concrete or masonry block, rough plaster, acoustical tile, and others of similar texture.Perform minor repair jobs on walls before painting. Perform masonry repairs as needed.Maintain an awareness of fire codes and other regulatory guidelines as they apply to the area of paints and finishes.Leave assigned area neat and orderly upon completion of painting project.Installs dry wall, floor and…
