Summary / Objective
This position performs tasks required for the operation of hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction/upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Load and unload equipment in a manner that is secure and damage‑free.
- Transport associated tools, materials, and/or equipment safely.
- Complete a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work.
- In conjunction with the crew, operate the equipment to assist in placing underground utilities.
- Operate equipment in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Responsible for locating existing underground utilities and verifying them according to blueprints.
- Identify utilities in the construction area and follow the bore path.
- Connect/stub‑up conduit and wire as required.
- Dig pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities.
- Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
- Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment (timesheet, vehicle log, expense report).
- Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans, and specifications.
- Knowledge of utility depths and placements.
- General knowledge of construction practices.
- Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Ability to work in trenches, excavations, and manholes.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks.
- Efficiency, independence, and collaborative teamwork.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Can work 5-7 days a week, 10+ hours a day when necessary.
- Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions.
Education and Experience
- One year of experience operating a directional bore drill.
- Previous rock‑boring experience.
- One year of experience with hydraulic excavators, skid loaders, and dozers.
- Class A CDL.
- Willingness and ability to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projects.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug test and criminal background screen.
- Complete and pass a DOT Physical.
This position typically requires balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and talking.
Working ConditionsThe employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions as they will be driving in all types of conditions.
TravelThis position may require travel, which could include traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
