JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
We are currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Commonwealth Arboreta Network GIS Project Assistant. The Penn State Commonwealth Arboreta Network (CAN) requires the skills of a GIS Project Assistant to assemble/migrate data from Bartlett’s Arborscope software into an ARCGIS searchable GIS dataset for use by Penn State OPP, and, with assistance, to create a publicly accessible general user interface (GUI) for the arboretanetwork.psu.edu
website for download or searches/queries by researchers and the general public. These data represent measurements and inventories of trees growing on all campuses and campus‑held properties. The GIS dataset shall also be constructed with a reproducible process such that updates can be performed with a minimum of efforts at least yearly, but not more than 4x per year. The CAN GIS Project Assistant shall work closely with the CAN Assistant, Faculty Chair, and the CAN Director along with assigned Penn State personnel.
Much of the work performed will be remote, with access and permissions to Penn State and Arborscope systems sought and/or granted by the CAN Director.
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
