Research

Post-doctoral Fellow doing Biomedical Research with Dr. Ordonez-Rubiano. The postdoctoral researcher with a strong chemistry background will have expertise specializing in organic synthesis, with preferred additional experience in protein purification and in vitro binding assays. The project addresses a critical need for the discovery and validation of novel therapeutic targets in cancer. The objective will be to design and develop bioorganic tools and characterize their binding and selectivity in vitro, with the ultimate goal to unravel the functions of transcriptional regulators in cancer models.

The postdoc will benefit from working in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics in Statesboro, GA with faculty with expertise in all areas of biomedical sciences. The position is for a two-year period, which can be renewed depending on funding.

This position is time limited and 100% sponsored-funded; therefore, continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant or contract funding.

• Conduct self-directed and directed research in the research project outlined
• Design and implement high-impact research projects including but not limited to organic synthesis and chemical biology
• Set up and maintain experimental instruments and equipment
• Develop manuscripts and presentations containing results of assigned research findings
• Assist with development, edit and review of project proposals, presentations, and reports
• Manage assignments to graduate assistants and undergraduate researchers as needed
• Oversee student researchers during laboratory experiments
• Oversee data analysis and data management
• Disseminate research results to scientific audiences through peer-reviewed journal articles, conference presentations, and other media

• PhD in a relevant field (Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology or related field)

• Experience with protein purification and in vitro binding assays
• Experience with molecular docking
• Experience with preparing grant applications
• Interest in exploring other chemical biology applications as well as cell culture techniques
