Research Assistant Position
The Student Assistant will support the School of Human Ecology as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. The student assistant will assist Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design, Dr. Yumin
¿ Genevieve¿ Kim. Dr. Kim's current research focuses on sustainability, fashion entrepreneurship, and real-world applications for ethical and social issues in the global fashion industry. Seeking a motivated junior or senior undergraduate student to directly assist in Dr. Kim
¿ s creative scholarship and research projects focused on natural textile dyeing methods and practices. This position offers hands-on experience in creative textile research, garment prototyping, pattern development, surface embellishment, visual documentation, and design workflow. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities include assisting Dr. Kim in executing creative scholarship and research experiments, including natural dye extraction, fabric preparation, and batch testing. Assist in developing garment prototyping and surface embellishment processes, including pattern making, hand embroidery, and beading techniques. Construct and finish textile and garment samples using industrial sewing machines. Document research processes, experiments, and dye results through high-quality photography and videography. Create visual promotional materials, infographics, or process guides using Adobe Creative Suite.
Maintain an organized laboratory/studio space, tracking sample inventories and experimental logs. Shift Specifics Up to 5 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability
Required Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Proposed Salary: $10.00 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
