Controller for a privately held, family-owned organization in Statesville, NC. This is a multi-entity business with approximately $100M in combined operations, including a $40M manufacturing company and a $62M contract-volume rent-to-own business.

Full-Time | Reports Directly to Ownership

I'm recruiting an experienced Group Controller for a privately held, family-owned organization in Statesville, NC. This is not a role for someone who simply wants to maintain an established accounting function. The company is looking for a strong financial leader who can bring greater consistency, discipline, and visibility across the organization while leading an established accounting team of approximately 10 professionals.

The Group Controller will work directly with ownership and the executive team and will have significant responsibility for improving processes, strengthening controls, and delivering timely, accurate financial information that can be used to run the business.

Multi-Entity Accounting & Financial Leadership

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities
• Manage consolidations and intercompany transactions and eliminations
• Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP
• Develop consistent reporting and KPI visibility across the organization
• Strengthen internal controls and standardize accounting processes
• Maintain audit readiness and work directly with external auditors and tax advisors
• Lead, develop, and provide direction to the accounting team

Manufacturing Accounting – A Critical Part of the Role

• Oversee standard costing and manufacturing variance analysis
• Maintain strong inventory controls across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Support job costing and project/product profitability analysis
• Manage Cap Ex tracking and depreciation
• Connect operational and production performance to financial results

Rent-to-Own Operations

• Ensure appropriate revenue recognition and accounting treatment
• Monitor portfolio performance, including delinquencies, repossessions, and residual values
• Support credit risk provisioning and applicable compliance requirements

Real Estate & Lease Accounting

• Oversee ASC 842 lease accounting
• Provide property-level financial reporting, including NOI, occupancy, and returns
• Support ownership with cash flow analysis and modeling

During the first 6-9 months, the Group Controller will focus on:

• Establishing a consistent and timely close process, targeting approximately six business days
• Standardizing accounting practices across the organization
• Improving consolidated reporting and drill-down visibility
• Strengthening the internal control environment
• Providing ownership with clear, dependable financial information and meaningful business insight

The strongest candidates will bring:

• 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
• Strong manufacturing accounting and cost accounting experience
• Hands-on experience with standard costing, inventory, and variance analysis
• Multi-entity accounting and consolidation experience
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP
• Experience leading financial audits and working with external auditors
• ERP experience;
  Acumatica is preferred but not required
• CPA preferred, but not required

Just as important, I'm looking for someone who is practical, hands-on, and comfortable operating close to the business. This organization needs a Controller who can identify what needs to be improved, establish the right processes, and follow through on execution.

The right person will be comfortable in a high-accountability environment, communicate well with both ownership and the accounting team, and bring a collaborative, approachable leadership style.
