Job Summary

Under general supervision, the primary purpose of this position is to assist the teacher in implementing daily activities for students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing daily activities for special education students to meet IFSP/IEP goals.
  • Assist with the daily activities of students, providing a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Perform various routine procedures such as positioning, diapering and feeding the students.
  • Maintain the classroom in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintain necessary records on students (e.g. data sheets, position charts, toileting charts, medication sheets, etc.).
  • Adhere to the principles of the LIFESPAN ChOICES Training Curriculum.
  • Ensure that the students are engaged and supervised at all times; interact with the students with eye contact, smile, handshake, pat on the back, etc. in a positive, polite and respectful way.
  • Follow the daily schedule.
  • Communicate professionally with all students, parents, visitors, coworkers, case managers, etc.
  • Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.
  • Collects data to document individual student progress on IEP/IFSP goals.
  • Participate in professional conferences, training programs and continuing education as required.
