Position: Certified Nursing Assistant | Emergency Department | PRN Days

Emergency Department Certified Nursing Assistant

The Emergency Department Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting with unit/patient care needs under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Has full access to patient health information. May have access to medication storage areas (excluding controlled substances) as related to job responsibilities.

Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required unless a current high school student participating in the CATS program for the NC
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required through American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Listed with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation in good standing.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

Job-Specific Standards

  • Demonstrates ability to properly perform the following as directed by the RN: change IV dressing, prime IV tubing, discontinue peripheral IV infusions.
  • Demonstrates adult urinary catheterization (straight cath) using sterile technique as directed by the RN.
  • Demonstrates operation of oxygen equipment as directed by the RN: setting up equipment properly, accurately reading of oxygen flow rate in patient's room, proper placement of oxygen device on patient.
  • Demonstrates wound irrigation and changing a dressing for wounds over 48 hours old as directed by the RN.
  • Accurately and appropriately documents CNA+4 skills performed and reports pertinent information to the licensed nurse.

  • Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Director, Assistant Nurse Director, Administrative Nurse Supervisor, Assistant Vice President of Nursing, and Vice President of Nursing.
