This position is responsible for assisting with the management of the overall operations of the community pool, the pool staff, and with the cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
NOTE:
Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. - Assists the pool manager with the daily operations of the community pool.
- Performs the duties of the pool manager in the event of the manager’s absence.
- Assists in enforcing the rules, regulations, and proper conduct of pool visitors, lifeguards, and staff to ensure pool safety; assists with training employees in the proper rules, regulations, and procedures for pool operations.
- Supports and enforces any decision made by lifeguards or supervisory staff regarding visitor suspension from the facility.
- Assists in maintaining the pool deck and pump room; assists staff in cleaning dressing rooms and vacuuming the pool.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance requests, accident reports, and daily pool chemical levels.
- Assists pool manager with creating weekly schedules for all pool employees.
- Assists pool manager in overseeing the collection of fees for admission and concessions.
- Administers first aid as required and accurately completes all necessary forms/paperwork for each situation; reports accidents in writing within 24 hours of the incident.
- Assists with special programs, events, or rentals scheduled at the pool.
- Always provide courteous treatment of pool guests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Possession of the American Red Cross Training certification in Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, procedures, and safety standards pertaining to municipal pools.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and applications of lifesaving and first aid techniques.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and laws pertaining to municipal pool operations.
- Ability to perform water rescues, CPR, and first aid when required.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
- Ability to supervise lifeguards, pool staff, and volunteers.
- Ability to use various tools, chemicals, and equipment to maintain the usability and safety of the swimming pool; ability to test the water and add chemicals to maintain water quality standards.
- Ability to accurately maintain records and prepare required reports.
- Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the public.
Physical Requirements
This position involves medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, swimming, and climbing up or down from an observation tower;
vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to respond to spoken words, to receive and understand information, and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for close, distance, and peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Conditions
The employee is subject to outdoor environmental conditions involving extreme heat, high humidity, sun, water, noise, dust, pollens, fumes, chlorine, and hazards including exposure to chemicals, electrical currents, slippery surfaces, and atmospheric conditions. Employee may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or pathogens. Employee may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
