Job DescriptionThis Art Teacher position provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited college or university.
- Possess or be eligible to possess a professional license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement to teach art.
- Bachelor's degree with appropriate certification for teaching assignment from an accredited college or university.
- Possess or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education.
- Knowledge of VDOE and SCS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum.
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and human relations skills.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school-based staff, students, parents, and community.
- Act under the direction and advice of building administrators within guidelines of school division policy and VDOE regulations.
- Demonstrate current, accurate, and comprehensive knowledge of topics covered in the curriculum and the state Standards of Learning, and prepare students to master grade level standards.
- Plan instruction with appropriate curriculum objectives, learning activities, and lesson plans for students and substitutes; instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
- Use current school and division data to plan both daily and long-range instructional decisions.
- Select and create comprehensive materials and technological resources to meet students' abilities and needs.
- Prepare for classes as assigned, and submit written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Link present content/skills with past and future learning experiences while actively engaging all students.
- Communicate key learning goals, concepts, and procedures to students in clear and appropriate manners.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote active student learning that meets the needs of all students.
- Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning.
- Provide opportunities for individual differences and equitable participation in learning.
- Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students and parents that encourages student progress.
- Provide a variety of evaluation strategies that measure student achievement.
- Maintain records of student performance and attendance; use time efficiently and effectively.
- Establish and maintain rapport with students; make classroom environment safe and conducive to learning.
- Maintain appropriate standards of behavior in a positive and constructive manner in the classroom.
- Demonstrate a professional demeanor and practice ethical standards appropriate to the profession; establish positive and respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Participate in meaningful and continuous professional development.
- Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and complete all required processes such as teacher evaluation, student records, etc.
- Provide service to the profession and the school.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with administrators, colleagues, parents, and the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check, employment reference check, and receipt of the Child Abuse and Neglect Training Certificate.
Benefits220‑day (11‑month) contract beginning late July 2026.
