Instructional Aide – Construction Trades
Valley Career & Technical Center – Staunton, Virginia

Instructional Aide – Construction Trades is a full‑time position that assists Carpentry, HVAC, Electricity, and Masonry instructors with program instruction and support.
Responsibilities- Reliable attendance and prompt arrival time.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Discuss daily plan with technical program instructor(s) to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Assist in delivering instructions to students.
- Carry out instructional plans as designated by the technical program instructor(s).
- Assist students, individually and in groups, with job tasks to reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintain a pleasant and orderly shop, site, and classroom environment.
- Assist technical program instructor(s) in maintaining a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff.
- Assist in ensuring the adequate and safe supervision of all students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and equipment.
- Demonstrate the ability to positively and appropriately support and assist the instructor in shop settings, classroom, and supervising general construction tasks.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience or 4,000 hours of work experience in building or other trades is preferred.
- The last work experience must be no older than five years from the current time.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and engage students in technical training and to enhance their critical thinking skills and their personal, social and intellectual development.
- Sound moral character and integrity.
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of construction.
- Demonstrated ability to operate general hand tools and basic shop equipment.
- Knowledge and management of relevant safety standards and practices in shop and construction settings.

Additional InformationThis is a non‑exempt position based on a 183‑day/7‑hour teaching contract on the N‑1 scale.
