Position: Behavior Specialist-Shelburne Middle School (2026-27 School Year)

Behavior Specialist

Shelburne Middle School is seeking applicants for a full-time Behavior Specialist position for the 2026-27 school year in the Alternative Education classroom.

Hiring Range: $25.49/hour to $31.35/hour DOE/DOQ.

190/Day Employment Notice

40 hours/week.

Primary Function:

This position will support all students and staff in providing interventions and services that are designed to successfully address student's mental health, emotional and behavioral issues that create a barrier to learning in the Alternative Education classroom.

Essential Functions:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Directly implements and supports school staff in the development and implementation of behavior support plans and interventions for special education students, and general education students as necessary;
  • Assists the BCBA in the development of behavior plans and supports teachers and staff members in the implementation of those plans;
  • Assists the BCBA and teachers in the development and implementation of evidence-based behavior support strategies in the classroom;
  • Collaborates with school staff to promote an educational climate that facilitates inclusion, social/emotional learning, student success and academic achievement;
  • Works directly with students who are in need of behavior support, and provides support for teachers and staff members who work with such students;
  • Assists BCBA in conducting assessments, collecting, and analyzing data in a timely, efficient and accurate manner;
  • Conducts preference assessments directly with students;
  • Works with teachers and other staff members to model effective behavioral and instructional programming and;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in the area of psychology, education, social work, counseling, mental health or related fields. Other educational attainment levels will be considered depending on experience and other relevant training.
  • BCBA or BCaBA credential preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in direct student behavior support and/or supporting educational teams preferred
  • Requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices of general child behavior support and intervention techniques.
  • Demonstrate the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification or completion of RBT certification within the first 90 days of employment required
