The City of Staunton Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff
. This position plays a vital role in maintaining public safety and supporting the operations of the courts through courtroom security, civil process service, and prisoner transportation.

• Provide security for courtrooms and court-related activities.
• Serve civil process documents in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Transport prisoners safely and securely.
• Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze situations and take appropriate and effective action.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with the public, court personnel, and other agencies.

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certification preferred.
• Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Starting annual salary: $49,131
