Job Description & How to Apply Below

Valley Children’s Advocacy Center (Valley CAC) works to strengthen our community’s response to child abuse and neglect and create a safe place for children to grow and thrive. Through collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, evidence-based practices, and strong community partnerships, Valley CAC provides compassionate, trauma-informed services that promote healing, build resilience, and reduce the long‑term impact of trauma on children and families.

Our work spans a continuum, including prevention, crisis response, forensic interviews, mental health treatment, and family support. We bring together dedicated professionals and community partners to ensure that children and families affected by abuse, violence, and trauma receive compassionate support.

Valley CAC serves children and families throughout Augusta, Alleghany, and Rockbridge counties, and the cities within them. As a community-based nonprofit, we rely on the generosity and engagement of individuals, businesses, community organizations, volunteers, and other partners to sustain and strengthen this important work.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support and implement the Center's individual giving and corporate fundraising efforts.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and corporate partners.
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospective donors and corporate partners and support the Executive Director and Board in major fundraising efforts.
  • Develop donor and fundraising-related materials (e.g., appeals).
Donor & CRM Management
  • Maintain accurate and timely records within the CRM/donor database.
  • Ensure timely donor acknowledgments within the CRM/donor database.
  • Generate basic reports and tracking information to monitor fundraising activity, donor engagement, and progress toward development goals.
Community Outreach
  • Represent the Center at events and other public opportunities to increase awareness.
  • Coordinate tabling, community engagement, and other general outreach activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with businesses, community groups, and other potential supporters.
  • Identify opportunities to connect community outreach with donor cultivation and fundraising.
Events
  • Coordinate the Center's two primary annual events in collaboration with the volunteer ambassador board, Board of Directors, Executive Director, and partners.
  • Coordinate event logistics, communications, sponsor ships, volunteers, and follow-up.
  • Evaluate events and recommend improvements to increase return on investment.
Communications & Digital Presence
  • Coordinate the Center's newsletter and maintain current and accurate website content.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on social media management.
  • Develop basic communications and promotional materials supporting development and outreach.
Organizational Collaboration
  • Work directly with the Executive Director to implement the annual development and outreach priorities.
  • Collaborate across the Center to identify opportunities to advance fundraising, engagement, and visibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when communicating about the Center, the children and families it serves, and its work.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position's role and organizational needs.
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education or relevant professional experience.
  • At least two years of experience in fundraising, business development, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Proficiency with common office technology and social media platforms.
  • Ability to represent the Center professionally in community settings and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or corporate sponsor ships.
  • Experience with a donor CRM/database, website management, and marketing management.
  • Experience working with community organizations, nonprofits, or other mission-driven organizations.

In addition to a base salary of $50,000 to $60,000, VCAC provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance (65% of employee premiums covered), as well as a matching retirement plan.

The role accrues 12 days of paid vacation per year, 12 days of sick leave, unlimited comp time, and all federal holidays (except Thanksgiving, assuming the role is needed for Turkey Trot).
