Western State Hospital is a 250-bed Joint Commission/CMS accredited facility located in the Shenandoah Valley. The department seeks dedicated, experienced Registered Nurse Professionals. A Registered Nurse II at DBHDS provides advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and regulations. RN II may be involved with Seclusion/Restraints under safety guidelines and risk assessments.
Responsibilities- Provide advanced nursing care for psychiatric patients in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.
- Safely implement use of Seclusion/Restraints when necessary, with knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of recovery and trauma-informed care.
- Delegate and supervise nursing staff; communicate effectively (written, verbal, and sign).
- Participate in an interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Work overtime as needed to cover staffing emergencies in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital.
- Complete annual competency training, including TOVA III with physical restraints; maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Minimum qualifications include ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff; effective communication; ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team; ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Ability to work extended shifts when necessary.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution preferred; additional consideration for veteran status, bilingual (Spanish) abilities, and nursing experience in psychiatry.
- Psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
- Current RN license; BLS for Healthcare Providers; completion of annual competencies including TOVA III with physical restraints.
- Schedule:
12-hour shifts on a two-week rotating schedule; 36 hours one week, 48 hours the next; shifts available 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. - Hiring range: $84,418 (salary commensurate with experience).
- Starting pay for RN II from $79,572; total compensation including PTO and benefits begins at $120,408 for this role.
- Pay band: 5
