Job DutiesWestern State Hospital is hiring Registered Nurse II for our Admissions unit for 3rd shift. The schedule is as follows:
- On Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
- Flexible shift patterns: 2 12‑hour shifts and 2 8‑hour shifts per week, or 5 8‑hour shifts per week
- Includes every other weekend
We provide:
- Starting Salary: RN II starts at $84,418; total compensation value begins at $127,470, including salary, paid time off, and benefits
- Shift Differentials: $4.00/hour for 3rd shift weekdays; $7.00/hour for 3rd shift weekends/holidays
- Voluntary overtime available; mandatory overtime 4 hours per week
- Provide advanced, compassionate nursing care to individuals with psychiatric and co‑occurring disorders
- Follow hospital protocols and professional standards in a highly structured and supportive setting
- Participate actively in interdisciplinary treatment planning
- Implement safe practices for seclusion/restraint use, understanding the physical and emotional needs of each patient
- Promote recovery‑focused outcomes and a positive therapeutic environment
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia / Compact licensure
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred)
- Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff; effective communication (written, verbal, and sign)
- Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Experience creating training material and maintaining a training program (preferred)
- Prior experience as a Nurse Supervisor or training (preferred)
- Familiarity with nursing philosophy of care, including trauma‑informed, person‑centered, and relationship‑based tenets
- Ability to work overtime during staffing emergencies in a 24‑hour, 7‑day‑per‑week psychiatric hospital, including potential 16‑hour shifts
- Complete annual competency training including TO III with physical restraints
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification via the American Heart Association
- Demonstrate knowledge of recovery / trauma‑informed care
- Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or higher education
- Psych Nursing experience preferred
- Veteran or spouse of veteran
- Bilingual - Spanish
