ResponsibilitiesThe Part Time RN works under the supervision of the RN Manager I, upholding the professional image of the Nursing Department as a role model and mentor for other disciplines. Utilizing knowledge and experience, the RN provides age‑specific nursing care to children and adolescents psychiatric patients through the nursing process in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and standards of nursing practice.
The nurse maintains a safe, therapeutic environment, using the least restrictive measures necessary and upholding the rights and dignity of the children and their families at all times.
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to lead educational groups
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, and the physical, psychological, and social needs of adolescent or child patients
- Competent with TOVA, CPR, and knowledge of laboratory values for children & adolescents
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to apply knowledge to meet child & adolescent needs in an inpatient psychiatric setting
- Ability to communicate nursing process knowledge to other disciplines, community groups, and schools of nursing
- Physical ability to walk and/or stand for up to eight (8) hours or more, bend & lift, and use TOVA techniques; may be exposed to aggressive patients
- Ability to work scheduled shifts, overtime hours, or shifts as required
