Position Overview

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Floater to floating provider offering cross‑coverage across the facility while delivering psychiatric care as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for assigned units and provide Staff On-Duty and Psych Backup coverage for hospital as scheduled.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing direct psychiatric care of patients on the assigned unit including:
    Psychiatric assessment;
    Patient and family interviews;
    Psychopharmacologic management; etc.
  • Planning and implementing psychiatric, medical, and behavioral rehabilitation treatment plans for patients on this service
  • Liaison with community mental health center staff in preparing and implementing patient discharge plans
  • Supervision of psychiatric nurse practitioner students
  • Reviewing of case formulations, treatment plans, documentation, and other activities of nursing students on the service
  • Reviewing orders, emergency decisions, and treatment plans made by others (ODs) for patients on the service

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Licensed Psychiatric/Mental Nurse Practitioner with Autonomous Practice and Prescriptive Authority in Virginia.
  • Active DEA registration prior to the approval of clinical privilege(s).
