Position OverviewWestern State Hospital is seeking a full-time Crisis Prevention Officer (CPO) to maintain safety and milieu management of the resident population and staff at Western State Hospital; maintain consistent and positive interaction with patients on the unit; ensure unit safety on each shift; provide therapeutic and physical interventions when needed; observe and engage in activities with patients; respond to emergency codes on the units;
and lead the safety culture and initiatives on the unit.
- Responds in a professional and therapeutic manner to incidents and emergencies as trained
- Conducts unit walk-throughs to maintain a safe and secure environment and milieu for patients and staff
- Responds to fire, disaster, duress alarms, or other emergencies and provides assistance as needed
- Conducts searches on the units as required
- Escort residents safely and securely to destinations within the facility
- Responds to all Code calls on forensic units
- Completes documentation as assigned and submits to the supervisor within the required timeframe
- Demonstrates reliability in attendance and punctuality
- Demonstrates effective negotiation skills in de-escalating problematic patient behaviors

- Experience in law enforcement, corrections, psychology, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice
- Bilingual
