Description

Position

Purpose:

Install and maintain overhead and underground fiber optic systems. Perform all responsibilities of telecommunication aerial maintenance and line work, which may include installing and removing anchors, lashing and de‑lashing existing cable, operating bucket trucks, and handling construction equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Experience in OSP fiber pulling and installations.
  • Understanding of separation and clearance requirements.
  • Knowledge of ADSS fiber cable construction.
  • Operate bucket trucks to lash and de‑lash existing and new cable.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of lashing techniques.
  • Install and remove down guys, anchoring systems, sidewalk arms, and guy guards.
  • Be proficient in pole climbing and working from hooks and gaffs.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Prepare daily production reports.
  • Complete paperwork, timesheets, test results, and vehicle inspection logs.
  • Coordinate local utilities as required.
  • Schedule plant‑related activities for construction.
  • Submit construction activity reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Attend training classes in new technology and safety.
  • Operate company vehicles safely.
  • Frequently sit, stand, climb, and bend as needed.
  • Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and crawling.
Physical Aspects

The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by a team‑member to perform the essential functions of this job in powerline construction.

While performing the responsibilities, team‑members must frequently stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The job demands rigorous physical labor, including lifting or moving up to, or exceeding, 80 lbs. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Team‑members may experience fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and extreme environmental conditions. Noise levels in the work environment can be loud, and work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in all aspects of aerial construction.
  • DOT health card required to operate a bucket truck.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read/write and understand aerial drawings.
  • Able to lift an excess of 75–80 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights of 20+ feet.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexible travel to long distances on short notice.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in multiple locations.
  • Willingness to work overtime when requested.
  • Willingness to travel, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
