Description

American Traeler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a Level 4 traumaa center requrequiring ACLS, TNCC, and NIHSS, and BLS, and PALS orENPC certifications and at least 2 years of ER experience.

Details
  • Acute care Emergency Department setting in a Level 4 trauma center, not a STEMI or stroke receiving facility
  • 7-bed ER expanding to 14 beds this fall
  • Staffed with 3 RNs plus a charge nurse, with additional swing shift coverage at 9a, 11a, and 3p
  • Approximately 60 patients treated per 24-hour period
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 for non-acute patients and 2:1 for resuscitations depending on acuity
  • Treats a wide variety of cases including trauma, burns, car accidents, water rescue, general surgical, orthopedic injuries, OB patients, and GI bleeds with send-outs for STEMI and ERCP care
  • Life flight available for transfers as needed
  • Common drips include heparin, pressors, and blood products with limited ICU holds managed by ER RNs
  • Separate triage area available, with travelers considered for triage duties if they have prior experience
  • ER holds are intermixed within the department rather than in a separate holding area
  • No separate psych or seclusion rooms as the facility only accepts voluntary psychiatric patients
  • 24-hour physician coverage with additional mid-level providers from 11a-11p
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor roles are staffed, with charge nurses taking patient assignments as needed and on nights
  • Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and handles ABGs and breathing treatments, though nurses may assist occasionally
  • Nursing is responsible for performing all EKGs
  • Monitor techs are present to watch telemetry (Mindray monitors) and notify RNs of changes, though RNs are responsible for strip interpretation
  • X-Ray and CT imaging located directly next to the ED, with techs handling routine transport and RNs accompanying unstable patients
  • RNs perform the majority of IV starts, with phlebotomy available as a resource
  • Shifts run 7a-7p, 3x12-hour day shifts per week
  • Scheduling is created by the manager, not self-scheduled, though shift blocks may be accommodated upon request
  • Weekend rotation required on an every-other-weekend basis
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • No standby or on-call requirements historically for travelers
  • Floating not required but desired if candidate has experience in another unit
  • Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Oregon or Compact) required
  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and TNCC
  • NIHSS and PALS or ENPC required, interchangeable with ENPC for pediatric certification
  • NIHSS may be completed within 30 days of start if not already held
  • NRP desired but not required, and may be completed within 30 days of start via an onsite class
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Previous smaller hospital experience preferred
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
  • Provide direct emergency care across a wide range of trauma and acute medical cases
  • Perform IV starts, EKGs, and telemetry strip interpretation as part of daily responsibilities
  • Collaborate with in-house respiratory therapy, monitor techs, and imaging staff for patient care coordination
  • Assist with ICU holds when ICU staff are unavailable to manage directly
  • Unit-specific orientation includes approximately 2 shifts with an RN during the first week
  • No specific scrub color required, solid colors or prints are acceptable
  • Facility dress code requires no visible face tattoos during shift and natural hair colors only
  • First-time travelers may be considered given adequate smaller hospital or ER experience
