Mechanic Class A FLOAT

The job profile, Mechanic Class A FLOAT 561, involves inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and/or installing parts on delivery vehicles and equipment to ensure proper function and vehicle safety.

Monday to Friday Float – 45 hours/week with various shifts (50% travel between Burlington, Mount Hope and Brantford terminals).

$45.21/hour

• Inspect, service, and repair delivery and related vehicles to meet vehicle safety, operational, and productivity goals and standards.
• Conduct maintenance and repairs, order parts, document and update work orders, communicate with suppliers and operations.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and report quality control issues (e.g., wipers not working) to determine their cause and identify if mechanical or general repairs or changes to the vehicle warranty are required.
• Conduct repairs, order and install parts, and inform customers of the status of repairs.
• Maintain parts inventory and purchase parts required for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Determine if parts can be rebuilt or repaired and returned to the active inventory.
• Coordinate administrative requirements for preventative maintenance.
• Provide emergency road service when vehicles break down on route to assess if the vehicle can be repaired on site.
• Identify root causes and repair options (e.g., location of repair, payment options, parts or other materials required, methods of payment).
• Arrange for trucks to be picked up through third‑party vendors (towing companies).

Completion of Community College of About Two Academic Years – Specialized trade or occupational courses.

• Trade certification as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) to inspect, diagnose, repair, and service mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and components for cars, buses, and trucks.
• 5 years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining automotive equipment.
• G driver license.
