Job Description

Colorado Mountain College (CMC) seeks adjunct faculty to assist students with their learning process by utilizing appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies. The faculty member will be committed to facilitating learning throughout the communities served by CMC, with teaching as the primary responsibility and additional service and scholarly engagement as required.

Pre‑Requisites for the Position (Qualifications)
  • Credentialed to teach in the specific program or eligible to be credentialed.
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in the specific field or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field (e.g., business, finance, management, marketing, or related fields).
  • Minimum of one‑year full‑time teaching experience, or equivalent experience as an adjunct instructor. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational skills, and general office skills (filing, typing, answering the phone, customer‑oriented, and attention to detail).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to research and analyze data, and ability to work independently toward established goals and deadlines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pedagogy and teaching experience equating to two years.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Success in this role requires accurate reporting of location within the State of Colorado; improper reporting may impair compliance with tax, payroll, employment, information security, and operational requirements.
Essential Duties

The following responsibilities and activities are expected of all faculty to maintain consistency and alignment with evaluation and promotion procedures.

  • Teach classes as assigned by the designated supervisor.
  • Prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved course objectives.
  • Develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with the development of measurable course objectives and plans.
  • Develop a relationship with students and staff that is professional and encourages communication.
  • Maintain accurate course records of students and complete required course forms.
  • Be available for student consultation.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
  • When agreed upon, assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance.
  • Represent the college in a professional manner throughout the community and college district by promoting a positive public image.
  • Engage in professional development as required for credentialing.

Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and support learning. Service activities may include campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentoring peers, assessment assistance, program review, student organization involvement, recruiting, and retention.

All faculty acknowledge that final payment for any contract may be withheld until submission of grades is complete.

Supervision of the Position

The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designated deans in alignment with discipline deans. The position may supervise student employees.

Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling, pushing, pulling, and lifting of objects up to 50 lbs. Work involves frequent reaching with hands/arms, use of finger movements, constant written and oral communication, reasoning, analysis, and occasional calculations. The role uses a computer and standard office equipment daily and may require driving a vehicle occasionally.
