Special Education Athletic Support Paraprofessional – Basketball Season (09/29/2025‑11/15/2025)
Steamboat Springs Middle School is seeking a Special Education Athletic Support Paraprofessional to assist student athletes during the basketball season.
Pay RangePay: $26.11 per hour. This is a temporary, hourly, season‑only position. Not benefit eligible.
Job Summary- Help the student athlete prepare for practice with clothing and meeting location.
- Communicate with coaches regarding any special considerations for the day.
- Communicate with coaches about absences, schedule changes, workout plans, and coordinate with parents.
- Help connect the student with teammates to foster a sense of belonging.
- Accompany the student athlete to the team meeting and then to the specific training squad for the day (distance, sprints, jumps, etc.).
- Assist with transitions between disciplines and escort the student to pick‑up points with a parent or guardian.
- When the student trains with the distance squad, run with the athlete off campus and supervise full time; provide direction, safety, and workout explanations when on the track.
- Travel with the student to competitions, accompany the student for the entirety of the event, and provide assistance at the start and finish lines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain discipline with large groups of students.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, staff, co‑workers, administrators, and parents.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Decision Making: Interpret policies/procedures and best practices. Errors could impact the district legally or financially.
Language
Skills:
Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Present information to groups of parents, community members, and Board of Education.
Calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentages, circumferences, and volumes. Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret technical instructions in text or diagram form and analyze data to supervise instruction and improvement processes.

Skills:
Proficient use of technology including word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, data analysis, email, and technology integration.

Apply research and theory in education; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community; communicate clearly in oral and written form; coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and negotiate; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board policies; maintain confidentiality.
Frequent sitting, talking, or hearing; frequent standing, walking, and use of hands. Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds from floor level to an elevation of four feet. Required close vision and ability to adjust focus.
