Program Coordinator: Equipment, Training & Custom Adventures

The Program Coordinator:
Equipment, Training & Custom Adventures is a year-round position responsible for STARS’
adaptive equipment systems, staff training and technical development, and the development and delivery of STARS
Custom Adventures programming. This position serves as a technical resource across STARS programs, leading
equipment fittings, adaptations, maintenance coordination, staff training, and ongoing instructor development. This
position also leads the development and execution of STARS Custom Adventures, providing individualized adaptive
recreation experiences designed around the goals, interests, and abilities of individual participants or small groups.
During the summer season, this position serves as the second-in-command within program operations, working closely
with the Program Manager to support daily programming, staff leadership, participant needs, logistics, and field
operations. The position provides direct instruction and mentorship throughout the year and serves as a key bridge
between technical program development, equipment, training, and program delivery.

• Lead participant equipment fittings for adaptive ski and snowboard programs.
• Fit, adjust, modify, and adapt adaptive and conventional ski and snowboard equipment to meet individual participant needs.
• Develop and implement equipment adaptations and modifications in collaboration with program leadership and instructors.
• Maintain knowledge of adaptive ski and snowboard equipment, technologies, and best practices.
• Monitor equipment condition, usage, and performance throughout the winter season.
• Support the development and maintenance of equipment retirement schedules and replacement plans.
• Identify equipment that requires repair, modification, replacement, or retirement and communicate recommendations to program leadership.
• Maintain accurate equipment documentation and inventory in coordination with operations staff.
• Serve as a technical resource for instructors and staff regarding equipment selection, setup, and troubleshooting.
• Serve as a year-round technical resource for STARS programs, supporting equipment needs across winter, summer, and Custom Adventures programming.

• Lead STARS’ internal training and continuing education program for instructors, volunteers, interns, and seasonal staff.
• Develop and deliver technical training and adaptive ski and snowboard clinics.
• Facilitate ongoing staff education throughout the winter season.
• Provide hands‑on training in adaptive equipment, equipment fitting, modifications, and adaptive ski and snowboard techniques.
• Support instructor development through observation, coaching, feedback, and skill progression.
• Identify staff training needs and work with the Program Director to develop appropriate educational opportunities.
• Support continuing education and professional development initiatives for winter staff.
• Maintain and update training materials, resources, and technical procedures as program practices evolve.
• Help establish consistent technical standards and practices across STARS programs.

• Provide direct adaptive instruction across STARS programs, including winter sports, summer recreation, and Custom Adventures.
• Support instructor assignments and participant‑to‑instructor pairing when needed.
• Conduct participant assessments and provide recommendations regarding equipment and instructional approach.
• Model high‑quality adaptive instruction and serve as a technical resource for other instructors.
• Support instructors and program staff with technical questions, adaptive approaches, and individualized participant needs across program areas.
