In RMYC’s Conservation Corps program, young adults spend a season serving on meaningful conservation projects that improve public lands and benefit local communities. Projects may include trail construction and maintenance, fence installation or removal, invasive species management, fuels reduction, campground improvements, habitat restoration, historic preservation, and other recreation or land stewardship efforts. Corps leaders collaborate with RMYC staff, fellow Ameri Corps members, and public land partners throughout the season.
All corps leaders will participate in service projects, daily camp chores, educational activities, and weekend recreation (weekends are summer only).
Summer Season
:
Crews will remain together 24/7 in the field with the use of an RMYC vehicle on projects and weekend recreational travel and activities. You are considered ‘ON’ RMYC time the entire summer (11 weeks). During the season: food, travel expenses, laundry, and showers will be paid for by RMYC.
Fall Season
:
Crews will travel to projects, serve, and camp together 5-9 days at a time and then will return to the office and be ‘OFF’ for 2-5 days at a time. Some projects/logistics may require crews to operate in a 24/7 setting ‘summer model’ for a portion of the Fall. During your ‘OFF’ time, participants are responsible for their own food, transportation, and lodging.
Optional Disaster Relief Assignments
: RMYC partners with the Ameri Corps Disaster Response Team to respond to natural disasters. These are often month-long assignments anywhere across the country or territories. Duties are dependent on the type of disaster.
