Depending on the level of experience and certifications you have, pay and job requirements may vary as follows:
- Maintenance Technician I: $23.06 - $32.29/hr.
- Maintenance Technician II: $25.37 - $35.52/hr.
- Maintenance Technician III: $27.91 - $39.07/hr.
As a member of the Parks and Recreation Department, the Open Space and Trails/Ski Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks and operates a variety of equipment in all phases of construction, repair, and maintenance of the City’s trails and open spaces as well as Howelsen Hill Ski Area.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the general supervision of the Open Space and Trails/Ski Foreman.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDServes as a lead worker over lower-level maintenance employees, seasonal employees, contractors, volunteers, and community service workers.

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. The primary duties of each Trails and Ski Maintenance Technician will be dependent upon the division(s) and/or facilities they are assigned to (ex. golf and ice rink, parks and ski, trails and ski, parks and snow removal, or ski and rodeo).
OpenSpace and Trails
Specific Duties
Leads and performs trail maintenance work on all hard and soft surface city trails. Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment. Is proficient in trail maintenance and construction duties, including trail brushing, clearing downed trees, erosion control, and tread restoration; maintains and constructs drainage systems, trail bridges, culverts, fences, signs, and gates.
Ski AreaSpecific Duties
Is proficient in the operation and maintenance of the ski area, including customer service, signage, snow making systems, ski lifts, lift shacks, and Howelsen Hill lodge. May perform snow making duties including carrying and moving snow making hoses and cords, digging out snow guns, adjusting nucleators, and relocating snow guns. May serve as a ski patroller.
