Job Summary
To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each student ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Responsibilities- Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health to students in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep timely records, and prepare progress reports.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff to help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administer group‑standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
- Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsor pupil activities.
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with K‑9 endorsement. Valid Illinois Teacher’s License (PEL).
Additional ResponsibilitiesAdditional tasks as assigned.
Physical ActivityThe role requires frequent walking and standing.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non‑traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization‑sponsored events and meetings.
Terms of EmploymentEmployment begins on August 1 each year and ends two weeks after the final day of the academic year for students and teachers.
