Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Moonstone Compliance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior NCA Compliance Officer to join our specialist compliance team.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a developing compliance professional to gain practical exposure through on-the-job training and mentorship while supporting the delivery of regulatory compliance and risk management services to credit providers.
The successful candidate will assist in providing National Credit Act (NCA
) and Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) compliance support, advisory services, compliance monitoring, risk assessments, policy development, and regulatory reporting. The role also involves assisting clients in navigating an evolving regulatory environment, with a particular focus on anti-money laundering (AML), customer due diligence (CDD), and compliance risk management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting with monitoring client compliance with NCA and FICA legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting compliance reviews, desktop audits, and compliance risk assessments.
- Providing guidance to clients on compliance obligations, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
- Assisting with AML, CFT, and counter-proliferation financing compliance initiatives.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of Risk Management and Compliance Programmes (RMCPs), policies, and procedures.
- Identifying legislative and regulatory risks and contributing to mitigation strategies.
- Conducting research on legislation, regulatory updates, and industry developments.
- Drafting compliance reports, client communications, and industry-focused articles.
- Maintaining accurate records and capturing activities on internal systems and databases.
- Consulting and corresponding with clients, regulatory stakeholders, and industry role players.
- Assisting with NCA registration applications and related administrative processes when required.

- LLB, four-year Law degree, Commerce degree, or equivalent qualification recognised by the FSCA for Compliance Officers.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in a legal, compliance, financial services, or related environment.
- Experience in credit compliance, credit risk, FICA/AML compliance, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and preferably another South African language.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transport - may need to attend to meetings at external stakeholders offices.
- 3 to 5 years' experience in a legal, compliance, financial services, risk, or regulatory environment.
- Working knowledge of the National Credit Act and the South African credit industry.
- Exposure to FICA, AML, CDD, beneficial ownership requirements, and compliance risk management processes.
- Admitted Attorney or completion of articles.
- Qualification or diploma in Compliance, Risk Management, AML, or a related field.
- ACAMS, AML CPRAC (SA), CISA, or similar professional membership.
- Experience in compliance advisory services, compliance monitoring, auditing, or regulatory support activities.
- Experience with goAML or similar regulatory reporting platforms.
- Exposure to AI-assisted research or compliance tools.
- The role is for an early-career compliance professional.
- The role is fully office-based and is not a hybrid or remote role.
- Preference will be given to EE candidates.
