Overview

The Financial Crime Compliance Analyst will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Barclays Africa Group against money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and other illicit activities. Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Compliance, you will be responsible for monitoring transactions, conducting investigations, and ensuring adherence to local and international regulatory requirements. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a high-impact team, leveraging advanced analytics and cutting-edge technology to detect and prevent financial crime.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor daily transaction flows using AML monitoring systems to identify suspicious patterns.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of flagged alerts, preparing detailed case files and SARs (Suspicious Activity Reports).
  • Collaborate with legal, risk, and business units to ensure timely remediation of compliance breaches.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of South African and international AML regulations, including FATF recommendations.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of AML policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Provide training and guidance to business partners on AML best practices and emerging threats.
  • Participate in regulatory examinations and audits, addressing findings and implementing corrective actions.
Required Skills
  • Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in data-driven investigation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • In-depth understanding of AML, KYC, sanctions, and fraud risk frameworks.
  • Experience with AML software platforms such as Actimize, SAS AML, or similar tools.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical judgment.
  • Project management skills to lead compliance initiatives and process improvements.
Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
