JOB SUMMARY

The City of Stephenville is seeking a full-time Water Plant Operator II. This role requires skilled work in the operation of water pumping, purification, and related equipment.

Water Production Supervisor

Water Plant Operator I positions if directed by Water Production Supervisor

• Works on-call duty and responds to emergency call back as required by supervisor.
• Collects samples of potable water for bacteriological and chemical; adds chemicals to the water system by prescribed standards.
• Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
• Order materials and supplies for operations and maintenance as required and directed.
• Checks and inspects all water wells, pump stations, lift stations, and related equipment for proper operations.
• Reads gauges and records information;
  Controls pressure and flow of water in the distribution system; maintains water pressure; operates, services, and adjusts pumps and machinery, records pertinent information.
• Maintains equipment, buildings, and grounds in a clean and orderly manner and performs minor repairs on equipment as required.
• Analyzes problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions.
• Maintains effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment.
• Acts on complaints from citizens and elected officials.
• Operates a City vehicle.
• Performs related work as required.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, and currently have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must acquire a Class B Groundwater license within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of water pumping and purification equipment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate, valid water and/or wastewater license(s).

Indoor and outdoor work. Level of physical activity is moderate to heavy. Other hazards include possible exposure to dangerous machinery, electrical lines, various driving conditions; inconvenience factors such as emergency calls, extra hours, and irregular hours. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, run, crouch, crawl, sit, and stand. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various sites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures and adverse weather while performing duties and may be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards.

Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work could involve getting dirty and wet. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, poor light, and odors.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Class B Groundwater or other appropriate, valid state licensures.
• Texas Driver's License with a good driving record.
• Must obtain CDL Texas Driver's License within one year of hire. City to pay for training.
