Teachers First, Inc. is seeking an experienced, highly organized
SCHOOLPupil Accounting Specialist
to support the Michigan public school academies we serve.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the importance of accurate student data, enjoys solving complex reporting issues, and wants to help schools successfully navigate Michigan pupil accounting and state reporting requirements.
The Pupil Accounting Specialist will serve as a key resource to academy staff, coordinating student count activities, maintaining accurate pupil data, completing state reporting, supporting audits, and ensuring critical reporting deadlines are met.
What You’llDo In this role, you will:- Coordinate pupil accounting and state reporting activities for assigned public school academies.
- Maintain and verify student enrollment and pupil accounting data in Power School, Skyward, and MSDS.
- Coordinate Michigan student count processes and required documentation.
- Obtain and maintain UIC information for incoming students.
- Review student records, identify reporting errors, and work with academy staff to resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare, review, certify, and submit required state pupil accounting reports.
- Coordinate documentation for ISD pupil accounting audits.
- Complete monthly Section 25 reporting for student enrollment changes.
- Support special education student reporting and FTE verification.
- Assist with TSDL and other required state and federal collections.
- Maintain information within systems such as SID, MI Data Hub, and EEM, as applicable.
- Support reporting associated with graduation/dropout data, clock hours, Civil Rights Data Collection, GSRP, and other required collections.
- Communicate reporting requirements and deadlines clearly to academy administrators and staff.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation for pupil accounting submissions.
The successful candidate will be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, responsive, and comfortable managing multiple schools and reporting deadlines. Required qualifications include:
- Experience in pupil accounting, student data reporting, school data management, or a related education field.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and deadline-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze reporting errors and work collaboratively to resolve them. - Ability to handle confidential student information appropriately.
- Power School and Skyward experience.
- Knowledge of Michigan student count requirements.
- Experience preparing for or supporting ISD pupil accounting audits.
- Experience with special education pupil accounting/FTE reporting.
- Experience working with Michigan charter schools/public school academies.
