Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Kindergarten Teacher at Ottawa Elementary School, grades K-1. The district seeks qualified applicants to create a flexible, developmentally appropriate elementary grade program and a class learning environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each student’s ability and to establish good relationships with parents, community and with other staff members.
GeneralDuties and Responsibilities
- Teaches district-approved curriculum
- Lower elementary teaching or student teaching experience (Kindergarten-1st)
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
- Analyze and use data from: NWEA, DIBELS, and Delta Math to inform academic planning, instruction, and assessment of students
- Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Applies current evidence-based practices and theory to classroom instruction
- Designs lessons that show evidence of differentiated instruction
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences
- Excellent written and oral communication skills at both adult and student levels
- Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences, etc.
- Is available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside of the instructional day
- Develops positive relationships with administration, colleagues, parents, students, and is a cooperative team player in any group setting
- Teaches students with disabilities through the use of inclusion strategies
- Ability to plan and implement accommodations for ELL, Special Education, 504, and at-risk students
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
- Develops and maintains appropriate academic and behavior recordkeeping to inform parents and staff in a timely manner
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans
- Plans and coordinates the procedures of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students’ work
- Provides accurate and timely reports as required by administration
- Keeps informed of research-proven instructional practices and conveys relevant information to colleagues
- Pursues professional growth to improve teaching and student learning by taking coursework, attending relevant workshops and conferences, and reading professional journals
- Arranges and sets up an organized classroom
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and creates a climate respectful of all learners
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals by setting clear objectives for all lessons, projects, and field trips, and effectively communicating them to students.
- Uses diverse instructional strategies and media tailored to classroom settings and the diverse learning needs and capabilities of all students.

- Participates in extracurricular activities that are a part of the total educational experience for all children
