Special Education Para-Educator

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Para-Educator at Reed City High School. This full-time position involves working closely with students with diverse learning needs, providing support in both academic and social settings. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive environment that promotes the growth and development of all students.

• Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Provide direct support to students in the classroom, including one-on-one assistance and small group instruction.
• Help students with daily living skills, including personal care, mobility, and social interactions.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and any challenges encountered during instructional activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to create a supportive learning environment.
• Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
• Assist with classroom management and maintain a positive and safe learning atmosphere.
• Support students during extracurricular activities, field trips, and transitions between classes.

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with students with special needs is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and administration.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
• Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
• Proficiency in using technology and educational software to assist in teaching and learning.
• Must pass background checks and any required training or certification related to special education.
