Location: Sterling Heights, MI

Position Overview

The FPGA Design Engineer is responsible for electronics and FPGA design and implementation in support of video and image processing systems. This role supports new development and legacy designs, working collaboratively across systems, software, and hardware engineering teams to deliver high-performance FPGA-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to develop FPGA designs for video processing, control systems, and system interfaces

  • Support existing and/or legacy FPGA designs

  • Develop and review requirements and decompose into executable work packages

  • Collaborate with engineering teams using issue tracking and revision control systems

  • Implement designs using existing IP blocks from Xilinx and third-party vendors

  • Create new IP cores using VHDL and Verilog

  • Develop system constraints and perform timing closure

  • Perform debugging through simulation and physical lab testing

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant FPGA design experience

  • Experience with Git or similar revision control systems

  • Experience with Jira or similar issue tracking systems

  • Experience designing ARM processors and AXI bus architectures with Zynq Ultra Scale+ MPSoC or similar SoC FPGA architectures, including PS-PL interfacing (bare-metal or OS-based designs)

  • Experience with industry-standard protocols such as PCIe, USB, Ethernet, DDR, I2C, SPI, CAN

  • Experience with video and camera interfaces including LVDS, HDMI, Display Port, Camera Link, SDI, GigE Vision

  • Experience with Xilinx toolchain including Vivado, SDK, and Vitis

Work Environment
  • Hands-on lab validation and debug work

  • Cross-functional collaboration across hardware, software, and systems teams
