Bartech Staffing is proud to partner with a global Automotive client who is accepting applications for a Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer in the Sterling Heights, MI area.
As a Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer you will play a key part in optimizing equipment performance, integrating systems with plant IT platforms, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Hourly Rate Range: $40 - $42 per hour (W2)
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
- Lead problem‑solving efforts to resolve equipment performance issues and drive root cause analysis
- Coordinate troubleshooting activities and resources to identify, validate, and implement solutions
- Support training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
- Assist in the integration of control systems with IT platforms (FIS, Error Proofing, QWX, IIoT, QTS)
- Troubleshoot automation systems, robotics, and control‑related downtime issues
- Use plant monitoring tools to analyze equipment cycle times and performance
- Review, coordinate, and support project installations
- Reprogram equipment to support engineering changes and process improvements
- Maintain program backups for machinery and automation systems
- Program new automation installations, including material handling systems and robotics
- Participate in risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety as part of a team
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of related controls engineering experience
- Demonstrated leadership aligned with Ford leadership behaviors
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with UAW maintenance teams, vendors, and cross‑functional process teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Hands‑on PLC experience with:
- Siemens
- Rexroth
- Allen‑Bradley
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
- Familiarity with UL508A and NFPA
79 standards - Experience with Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Siemens Power Line and Solution Line configuration and programming
- Background in machining and automation controls troubleshooting
