Title: Engineering Manager – Sterling Heights, MI

Job Description: A detail-oriented, organized, and hands-on individual to join our company as an Engineering Manager in our Engineering Department. This is a full-time position. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the Engineering Department in support of daily manufacturing operations, ensuring accurate manufacturing documentation, process improvements, customer support, and efficient execution of production requirements. This role will oversee Manufacturing Engineers and CNC Programmers and coordinate engineering activities to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule while supporting the production floor.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Engineering Department, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical support to Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Establish departmental priorities and ensure engineering tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Review and approve manufacturing processes, operation sheets, work instructions, routings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Support production by resolving manufacturing issues and providing timely engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with machinists, supervisors, Quality, and Production Control to improve manufacturing efficiency and throughput.
  • Review customer drawings and specifications to ensure manufacturing requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Support estimating activities by reviewing manufacturing methods and providing technical input for quotations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, quality improvements, tooling optimization, and cost reduction.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing standards, engineering procedures, and best practices.
  • Coordinate engineering support for customer and vendor technical inquiries.
  • Monitor engineering workload and allocate resources to meet production demands.
  • Evaluate tooling requirements and oversee fixture and tooling design as needed.
  • Assist in ERP data accuracy, including routings, BOMs, item masters, and engineering changes.
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration between Engineering and all manufacturing departments.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Ensures adherence to applicable VECCO internal, federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to compliance and takes responsibility to ensure ongoing conformity with such rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of manufacturing engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Aerospace and Defense manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, and complex machining operations.
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes for titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, and other aerospace alloys preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, technical procedures, and customer requirements.
  • Experience with Siemens NX or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing planning, routing development, tooling selection, and process optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and root cause investigations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and interacting daily with shop personnel.
  • Prior machining or CNC programming experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, and all levels of the organization.
  • Must have a valid US Passport.
