As a Manufacturing Leadership Intern, you will help identify opportunities to improve productivity, decision-making, and employee effectiveness through the application of artificial intelligence and data-driven problem solving. Working closely with plant leadership, technicians, and Manufacturing Capability teams, you will develop practical solutions that create value for frontline operations while gaining firsthand leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success:

As a Manufacturing Leadership Intern, you will help identify opportunities to improve productivity, decision-making, and employee effectiveness through the application of artificial intelligence and data-driven problem solving. Working closely with plant leadership, technicians, and Manufacturing Capability teams, you will develop practical solutions that create value for frontline operations while gaining firsthand leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn manufacturing processes and build an understanding of how work flows through plant operations.

  • Partner with technicians, team leaders, and manufacturing leadership to identify operational challenges and productivity opportunities.

  • Evaluate how AI and digital tools can simplify work, improve decision-making, and increase operational effectiveness.

  • Develop and test a prototype, workflow, tool, or recommendation using approved AI capabilities.

  • Gather feedback from end users and refine solutions based on operational needs.

  • Present recommendations to manufacturing leaders, including expected business value, adoption considerations, and implementation opportunities.

Expected Impact

The intern will help advance Manufacturing's digital transformation efforts by developing practical AI-enabled solutions that improve productivity, streamline workflows, and support frontline decision-making. The work completed will help leaders and technicians focus more time on high-value activities while strengthening AI capabilities across the organization.

Example #1 - AI-Powered Leader Toolkit
  • Develop an AI-enabled resource that helps manufacturing leaders quickly access standard work, coaching guidance, key metrics, and troubleshooting information to support daily decision-making and employee development.

Example #2 - Production Issue Insights Assistant
  • Create a tool that summarizes downtime events, recurring production issues, or quality concerns to help leaders identify trends and prioritize improvement actions more efficiently.

Example #3 - Training & Workforce Development Support
  • Design an AI-assisted solution that helps leaders identify skill gaps, recommend training resources, or streamline onboarding and cross-training efforts for frontline employees.
